(Creative movement, tap, pre-ballet and tumbling)

The primary goal is to foster a love of movement. Several fun and exploratory activities happen in each class. For example, a scarf dance or a bean bag balance game can facilitate the dancer’s own physical expression. Taking part in dancing out a narrative helps children to understand that dancing is expression. Children will also be exposed to vocabulary in tap and pre-ballet that will be elaborated as they continue through the program. The class meets for 45 minute to one hour weekly and has an introduction to Ballet, Tap, and Tumbling and it's all done in a creative way. They will be coming out singing and dancing.

JAZZ AND HIP HOP

Jazz always begins with a series of warm-ups including isolations, stretching and strength building. The class develops a dancer's muscularity, precision and coordination.

Jazz dance concentrates on percussive movement and isolation of the head, shoulders, rib cage, and hips. Class work is geared to develop control and speed in these areas. Classes include across the floor, for skill-building and locomotion, as well as combinations in the center building the dancers memory, coordination and performance.

The intermediate and advanced jazz class will focus on building the skills necessary for growth. There will also be a greater emphasis on the importance of style and performance added to the students' class work.

Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality.

Classes will include stretching and strengthening. It will also include the basic foundations for good technique including proper body alignment for balance, coordination and control.

Our program fuses popping, locking and breaking with urban movement. To produce a smooth, rhythmic dance style, classes start with a warm-up and moves into a combination work.

BALLET, POINTE, CONTEMPORARY

Ballet is the framework for all good technique, essential in developing the complete dancer as it cultivates grace with strength while the dancer discovers control and balance; beginning through advanced. There is no substitute for proper ballet training.

Our Ballet program includes barre, center floor, petit and Grande allegro, adagio, pirouettes, and ballet variations.

The young dancer will be instructed on good technique and building strength and stamina at the barre, learning skill through repetition and gradually progressing toward more free-standing center movement.

The advanced dancer will be challenged with more complex combinations in their barre work and move to center for a fast-paced succession of combinations.

Pointe

Pointe work is the beginning of advanced ballet training. The dancer with a solid ballet background and adequate physical strength will be recommended for pointe study. Pointe work is only accomplished by strength, perseverance and commitment.

A technical, highly structured extension of Ballet, students must be technically sound in their Ballet progress, must have the proper strength from which to support the body.  Students are allowed to participate when recommended by their ballet faculty member.

Contemporary and Modern Dance

Lyrical or Contemporary training captures the choreographer's vision as the dancer physically and emotionally expresses connection with the music (Intermediate and Advanced dancers must also be enrolled in Ballet).

Modern was developed out of a search for something new and out of a sense of rebellion.

Each new modern choreographer moved in his or her own way, there are many different schools of modern dance; these are numerous and include Martha Graham, Horten, Ailey, and Limone technique.

In a modern class the dancer is led through a series of exercises, which develop a dancer's good technique, risk taking and creativity.

Modern dance is constantly being redefined by contemporary dancers and choreographers. Self-expression will be exercised and encouraged throughout the classes. There will be some work with improvisation and choreography, giving the student the opportunity to take risks and the chance to truly express themselves through movement.
